Still time for open enrollment

Amalia Chandley.

Medicare's annual open enrollment period is underway, running through Dec. 7. This time of year is an important opportunity for Medicare beneficiaries to take a look at their current plans and make sure they're still the best fit. If everything works well with your current plan, you don't need to make any changes. Still, it's always a smart idea to review your options and make sure your doctors and medications are covered.

I know firsthand that sorting through Medicare can be a bit overwhelming. With all the different enrollment periods and rules, it's easy to feel confused and unsure. Missing key deadlines can mean waiting periods, unexpected out-of-pocket costs and even lifelong penalties. That's why having someone local you trust to help guide you can make all the difference.

If you live in Kern County, you've probably noticed your mailbox filling up with ads about Medicare plans. As my mentor Sue Wonacott, a well-loved local Medicare advisor, taught me in the beginning, "All plans are good, but some are better than others." That's as true now as it was then. While all plans offer coverage, finding the one that really meets your unique needs can take some effort.

It's not just seniors who have questions – adult children often reach out to ensure their parents are well cared for. If you're worried about high costs or if your current plan isn't meeting your expectations, don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to answer questions and support families in finding the best solutions for their loved ones.

During this open enrollment period, beneficiaries can switch their prescription drug plans, change their Medicare Advantage plans or even enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan for the first time. Changes made now will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025. With time moving quickly, now's the perfect moment to seek advice, explore your options and feel confident about your decisions.

At Central Health Access Assisters (CHAA), right here next to the Rite Aid, we provide the hands-on support that our community needs. Our mission is to make sure no one in our community has to navigate the maze of Medicare alone. Don't let confusion or worry keep you from finding the best coverage. Reach out today – we're here to help.
