The City of Tehachapi is assisting the Tehachapi American Legion Post 221 with a bench dedication ceremony on Wednesday, May 22 at 10 a.m. This will be the second custom-made wind turbine bench the City of Tehachapi is dedicating to our veteran community.

"We appreciate this thoughtful and generous donation of custom-made benches and wanted to make sure they are on public display in special locations throughout Tehachapi. Our American Legion Post 221 was the first organization we thought of," said Greg Garrett City Manager. "We wanted to have the second bench in place and dedicated before Memorial Day weekend. We received a total of six custom-made benches from Canvus Inc."

The first two benches have been placed at the American Legion Hall on F Street. The third was placed at Freedom Plaza in front of the Visitors Center. The fourth bench was placed in the new TPD Pickleball Courts spectator area. The fifth bench has been given to the Chamber of Commerce to be placed in front of their office. The sixth bench has yet to be placed, looking for a special location in town for the public to enjoy.

The bench is custom made by Canvus Inc .; an Ohio based outdoor furniture manufacturer who makes these unique benches and artwork from decommissioned wind turbine blades from the renewable energy industry.

"In collaboration with city leadership, we have worked to showcase the history of Tehachapi's residents who have served in the Armed Forces. By utilizing QR codes on each bench, visitors can easily access digital stories that highlight the resilience, dedication, and sacrifice of these brave men and women, "said Sean Calhoun, Canvus Inc.www.gocanvus.com/.
