Tehachapi Hometown Christmas, Dec. 3 – Happenings & Special Offers

November 19, 2022

The City of Tehachapi is happy to announce the addition of a "Tehachapi Hometown Christmas" event on Saturday, Dec. 3 in downtown.

"The idea came from within our community. We were approached with the idea to have a Christmas festival of sorts on Green Street, like what we do for Farmers Market," said Key Budge, from the City of Tehachapi. "A few of us from the city got together and thought about how we could enhance what occurs in Downtown Tehachapi during the holidays."

A Tehachapi Hometown Christmas will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 2 to 5 p.m. Timing of this event fills a gap between Christmas related events in the downtown area. The Rotary Club kicks off the day with a Christmas breakfast, the Historic Train Depot hosts photos with Santa along with a bake sale, the Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Christmas Parade on F Street and that is followed by the Christmas Tree lighting at the Depot.

We will close Green Street between Tehachapi Blvd. and F St. and host a Christmas-themed makers market. There will be ornament making, kids games, carolers, musicians, an ugly Christmas sweater contest, a reading of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Alex Zonn and a visit by Santa before he joins the parade.

We are inviting local businesses to offer specials, discounts and sales, and encourage people to shop local and at our small businesses. We are inviting local eateries to create a Christmas Parade to-go family meal. We are also inviting our nonprofits to come out and set up a booth for their holiday programs.

Children will be able to write letters to Santa, take part in a Christmas coloring station, free ornament making, free hot cocoa, hand painted Christmas goods, a Christmas-themed selfie area, live nativity scene, THS Jazz Marching Band will stop by and play a couple of Christmas tunes, Christmas light tour booth, canned food drive, craft booths, musicians and more to come!

Thank you to our media sponsor The Loop newspaper and facilities sponsor Waste Mangement Tehachapi.

Look for the updated schedule at the city's Facebook page: City of Tehachapi, CA Government. More information will be added before the event so be sure to check online to see what else is happening on Dec. 3. Several local restaurants and businesses will be offering specials that day.

Events and offers from local businesses are subject to change. Street closures on Dec. 3 can be found on the city of Tehachapi's Facebook page.
