Mountain Reflection is a traditional ink painting in sumi-e styling with gold leaf accent, starch mounted and finished with Chinese signature and artist seal in red.

Tehachapi artist Chris Paschke announced that she has been selected as one of 248 artists to be featured in the "SSA 59th Annual Juried Exhibition." The online exhibition of the Sumi-e Society of America, Inc. will be available for viewing now through June 30, 2023 at http://www.sumieshow.org.

In her piece, Paschke uses ink and gold leaf in the traditional sumi-e style and materials.

The Sumi-e Society of America, Inc. sent out a call to artists to submit their work early in 2022. From those submissions 120 paintings and 19 calligraphy originals were accepted. Paschke's "Mountain Reflection" is a 10" by 10" traditional painting in sumi-e styling on non-sized, lightweight Asian mulberry paper with gold-leaf accent, backed with traditional starch mount, and finished with Chinese signature and seal of the artist. Her painting was not only accepted into the exhibition, but was praised as having a Western flavor to it by the top of the mountain being cropped and the addition of gold leaf accents. As a result, she was awarded the SSA National Capital Area Chapter Award of $300, by juror Dongfeng Li.

Paschke is a resident of the Bear Valley Springs area of Tehachapi. She is a member of the Bear Valley Springs Cultural Arts Association and the Tehachapi Valley Arts Association. She is identified by her varied styles – many with an Asian flair – including both Eastern and Western calligraphy; Sumi-e (a traditional form of Japanese ink painting), watercolor, gouache, acrylic, mixed media and gold leaf in abstract, expressionistic and contemporary interpretations.
