The Stallion Springs CSD expressed a huge "thank you" to all who made Oktoberfest a huge success. The funds from this year's event will be used to match a grant to get new playgrounds at both Man O' War and Horsethief parks, as well as for the aeration of the lake.

Trunk or Treat

On Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tickets for food and games go on sale Oct. 17 and will be available Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the SS Community Center, 27850 Stallion Springs Dr. Candy donations are encouraged.

Harvest Festival

On Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Stallion Springs Community Church, 18151 St. Andrews Dr.

Save the date: Breakfast with Santa

On Dec. 10 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the SS Community Center.

Help keep mail tidy

The CSD is looking for volunteers to help keep the mailboxes looking nice by taking care of their own mail site. They are asking volunteers to help keep postings current on the message board and trash picked up. They have done some repairs and are asking residents to use care when handling the locks, especially on the parcel boxes. They are also asking residents not to put flyers on the mailboxes – use the message boards.

Wildlife in the community

Stallion Springs is home to many wild animals like coyotes, bear, elk and others. For the safety of the animals and the residents;

1. Watch them from a distance. Never approach them.

2. Do not feed the wildlife. Make sure trash is secured and no pet food is left outside.

3. Remove any standing water and water features.

4. Pets and their food should not be left outdoors at night.

5. Bird feeders should not be accessible to other animals.

6. If wildlife becomes aggressive, call the Department of Fish and Game at (559) 243-4005.

7. Remember: This is their home too. Keep the wildlife wild.

Fishing reminder

There is a fine for fishing without a permit. The 48-hour permits are available at the Stallion Springs General Store or the CSD for $10. Yearly permits are available only at the District Office. Remember there is no fishing from the bridge or on or near the dam.

Stallion Springs Library

Don't forget the Fall Library Sale from Nov. 1 to the end of the year. Two books for a quarter or fifty cents a bag. Library hours are Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday noon to 3 p.m. Located at 20030 Pellisier Rd. (661) 822-4003.

CERT

The Stallion Springs Community Response Team (CERT) will hold their next monthly meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Stallion Springs CSD, 27800 Stallion Springs Dr. The 20-hour CERT Basic Training Course will be held Oct. 19, 22, 29 and Nov. 5. The course covers basic disaster response skills. It is free and will certify participants to be part of SSCERT or for personal preparedness.

Police

The Stallion Springs Police Department is dispatched through the Kern County Sheriff's Office. If you have a life-threatening emergency, call 911. For non-threatening issues call (661) 861-3110 or use the contact on the CSD website http://www.stallionspringscsd.com. If you wish to make an appointment to speak to an officer, contact the CSD at (661) 822-3268 but be aware that, due to limited staffing, appointments may be canceled. These communication systems are free to everyone.

Stallion Springs Board of Directors

The CSD board meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the CSD Boardroom. The next meetings are scheduled to be on Oct. 18 and Nov. 15.
