October, the month that starts to get cooler with clear skies and by the end starts the holiday season. Of course, what would October be without the Tehachapi Apple Festival which takes place on Green St. in Downtown Tehachapi on Oct. 15 and 16.

This festival is clearly geared toward families and kids. There is an entire section dedicated to "old fashioned" carnival games like ring toss, hit the cans, corn hole etc. We have hula hoop, bounce ball races, balloon car races, egg on a spoon race and lots of fun things that allow kids to just be kids, all at NO COST. On top of that, we have free face painting, puppet shows and petting zoo. At the Depot, for $10 you can get a bracelet for all-day bounce house experiences.

There are lots of food vendors, so no reason to go hungry. Start your holiday shopping at the over 95 vendors with an amazing variety of products. Buy your dog a gift, your best friend, your parents, the kids. Get something for yourself. Enjoy live music while having a beer or glass of wine. Watch the pie eating contest or the pie baking contest. Visit the Vintage Trailer Show on Sunday or watch the Apple Drop on Saturday. Take pictures with our Apple Mascot, Apple, or the big entry apple. Get yourself a 1/2 peck of apples. We'll have several varieties. You can also get apple pies, apple turnovers, apple nachos and so many apple goodies.

Whatever you do, come to the Apple Festival, and bring the whole family. We do it for you and for all the organizations that we support, thanks to our sponsors Alta One, BHE Renewables, The Loop newspaper, Waste Management, Terra Gen and Rio Tinto.
