2022 Independence Day weekend initial review

Kern County Fire Department

July 9, 2022

For 2022, a new online reporting tool was utilized to help reduce the number of non-emergency calls to 911. The Kern County Fire Department would like to thank our community for following the direction to use the online “Illegal Fireworks Reporter.” In addition to reducing non-emergency calls to 911, this new reporting tool provided real-time data to better direct resources.

In total, we received 6,400 reports to the Fireworks Taskforce, through the “Illegal Fireworks Reporter” between June 28 – July 4.

On July 4 alone, we received 4,000 reports to the Fireworks Taskforce, through the online service.

On July 4, the Emergency Communication Center processed 1,879 calls and dispatched 214 separate incidents for the Kern County Fire Department, including 77 fires.

Total incidents

18 structure fires

45 outside fires

6 vegetation fires

3 vehicle fires
