The Pool opened for the summer on June 13. Kiya Knowlton and Riley Deck were first in line to get through the gate and were welcomed by Lifeguard Aaron Rhoden.

Open Swim is scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will be 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Other special events at the pool include Water Aerobics and Adult Lap swims. Lessons for Guppies (ages 3 to 5), Goldfish (ages 6 and up) and Dolphins (ages 8 and up) will be available. Be animal aware

The Stallion Springs Police Department reports that human-wildlife encounters are becoming more common in our community. This is mostly due to inappropriate human interactions with wildlife.  The SSPD asks that you do not feed, follow or harass wild animals as they are unpredictable and it's a violation of California State law.  Lets do our part, and give wildlife the respect and space they deserve, so we can enjoy our furry and feathered friends for generations to come.

Always keep trash, recycling and compost in secure bins. Wait to put out trash until the morning of collection. Clean garbage and recycling bins with bleach or ammonia. Remove unsecured trash, food and strongly scented items from vehicles and yard.

Use simple, effective exclusion methods. Keep doors and windows closed and locked when unoccupied. Bring pets inside at night. Keep livestock in secure pens at night. Eliminate access to potential den sites (e.g., crawl spaces under decks). Store BBQ grills in secure shed or garage, and keep them clean when not in use.

Use simple, effective deterrent methods. Install motion-activated lights, noise or alarms. Install electric fencing around chicken coops and animal enclosures. Deploy sensory deterrent where potential access to attractants may occur (e.g., place ammonia in shallow bowl).

Respect the animals. Give animals adequate space as this is their natural habit. Do not approach wildlife up-close to take a picture. Take a picture from a safe distance. Do not harass and annoy wildlife.

Police report

Chief Gary Crowell filed a report of statistics for May. The Department had six arrests, issued five citations, had 87 reports, 95 calls for service, completed 24 officer, initiated investigations, 31 field interviews and two medical assists. There were six vacation house checks and the Department assisted other Enforcement agencies 10 times.

If you have a life-threatening emergency, call 911 and specify to the dispatcher that you live in Stallion Springs. The Stallion Springs Police Department is dispatched through the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

Food distribution

The Stallion Springs Community Church has arranged with a distribution center in Bakersfield to provide free food distribution to local residents. It is open to all, no income verification is required. It includes non-perishables and breads, desserts, snacks, butter, cheese and meat. The distribution is scheduled for July 9, Aug. 13, Sept. 10, Oct. 8, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon. Food boxes will be provided on a first come first serve basis while supplies last.
