In a two-hour budget meeting held on June 6, the Tehachapi City Council approved a balanced $33.3 million budget for the City of Tehachapi for 2022/23, they also approved preliminary budgets for the years 2023/24 through 2026/27.

At the regular Council meeting that followed the budget meeting, the City Council approved an agreement with CalTrans that is necessary for work to begin on the engineering phase of plans to construct new curb, gutter and sidewalk on Dennison Road between Tehachapi Blvd. and Pinon Road. The project is planned to include a pedestrian signal crossing at the southeast corner of Dennison Road and Valley Blvd. near Tehachapi High School, as well as improved crosswalks and bike lanes.

Development Services Director Jay Schlosser said that this agreement involves only the design phase of the project and should be completed and ready for the next step in about a year.

The Tehachapi City Council meets on the first and third Monday of the month at 6 p.m. They are currently meeting at the Police Department Community Room, 220 W. C St.
