Friends and community members worked together to make the Book Sale a success.

The Tehachapi Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale on April 23 was a tremendous success. The community came out and helped us earn over $2,500 by buying books. That money is being put to use immediately to purchase some really nice prizes for the library's Summer Reading Challenge. Bringing in this much money will help with our library's plan to have two or three times as many prizes as in previous years.

The Summer Reading Challenge will run from June 1-July 31 at the Tehachapi Library, with an official kick-off event on June 14 at 11 a.m. The program is bigger than past years, so start reading and logging your books in Beanstack to earn your prizes. All ages can participate, including adults! In addition, the library has planned many fun events for this summer, including a magician, a ventriloquist and bubble magic! If it's been a while since you've visited our local library, this summer will be a great time to get reacquainted.

All the money earned is incredibly important to help our library do fun things for our community. And these sales cannot happen without a lot of help from the community. So the Friends of the Library are incredibly thankful to so many members of our community who helped us make the sale successful, including: Wendy M. from Albertsons for our sale bags, Eric from Save-Mart for boxes, Tehachapi Wrestling Club, Cee, James, Danielle for helping move boxes. Extra special thanks to Marianna G. at City Hall for use of the city sign to advertise, we think that helped our turnout! There were also a number of family and friends that helped with the last minute weather issues: Mari R., Robin H., Savanah, Matt S., Rob S., Adam L., and Ron M. And, as always, we're grateful for the patience and generosity of everyone that turned up to buy the books.

While this was the last "big" sale until the fall, keep an eye out for one or two "pop-up" sales during the summer which will be held in conjunction with a couple of the Thursday Downtown Farmers Markets. And if you find you just can't wait, don't forget the Friends of the Library Downstairs Bookstore at the library. Books here are individually priced with very reasonable prices. This sale is available to you year round whenever the library is open (11 a.m. - 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday). All the proceeds for these book sales go toward helping to fund our library's programs.

If you'd like to do more, you can volunteer with the Friends of the Library. Contact us at FOLTehachapi@gmail.com or (661) 750-2818. The library is located at 212 S Green St.
