Tehachapi Arts Center

April 2, 2022

Welcome Chainsaw Coop

Tehachapi Arts Center is happy to announce that last month’s guest artist is this month’s newest vendor. Cooper Davidson (AKA Chainsaw Coop) is a local wood sculptor. He produces amazing animals, furniture and signs with his chainsaw. Harvesting the wood from dead trees on his property. His art is environmentally friendly as well as beautiful.

Our new Sculpting Class will be held every Saturday morning with Lucinda from 10 a.m. to noon. The medium will be clay. The instructor will provide a clay sculpting kit for a reasonable fee if you do not have your own tools.

Paint Night is on April 16. Craft your own masterpiece with the help of Lucinda Thomas. Snacks, drinks and all supplies will be provided. There will be wine as well as other beverages.

Johnathon and Susan Hall’s new Improv Class is coming on Saturday, April 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. This is a class not a performance so be prepared to join in on a spontaneous night of fun and entertainment.

Our Children’s Art Class is now at 3:30 p.m. every Wednesday so that students can more easily attend. Individual instruction is available or plan an artistic birthday party for your own group of artists.

We would like to remind everyone that the center has Open Studio time Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you or a group need a roomy place to create your art away from your daily distractions or if you just want to be in a creative environment, we have a place for you. Sew your quilt, paint a picture, sculpt or just socialize.

Jewelry store

Our new jewelry store is becoming quite popular. Alari Design is open noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment. Call or text (661) 805-0849. Fine custom jewelry, in house repairs and watch battery replacement. All done here in town.

Tehachapi Arts Center is looking for local artists and crafts people to join us as a vendor or new member in teaching and bringing art to our community. We have people asking for soap products all the time.

Coming in May

Cathy Clark will be conducting a Beginning Polymer Clay Class on Saturday, May 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. She will teach the basics of working with this material and you will create and decorated. This class will fill up early so do not wait to sign up.

Local author Lauraine Snelling is offering her Writing Great Fiction Class. Lauraine, a successful writer with 140 books published, will show you some of her methods and tips to organize and produce compelling works of literature.

May’s Paint Night is on Saturday, May 21 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The Tehachapi Arts Center is a cooperative, continuing the heritage of Mel White’s Treasure Trove providing a venue for local artisans to gather, learn, teach and, of course, display and sell their art. We are located at 116 E. Tehachapi Blvd. (across the street from the water tower). Open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., call (661) 822-6794.
