New bowling alley underway

At the Jan. 27 meeting the Tehachapi Rotary Club, builder Kenny Harrison described his new project in Old Town Tehachapi, which will include a bowling alley, brewery, restaurant and two meeting rooms. In an interview format facilitated by Christina Scrivner, Harrison said he is hoping the project can be completed by his 60th birthday at the end of August 2022, if there are no setbacks.
The bowling alley is planned to have 16 lanes using string pinsetters, a relatively new technology that eliminates having to use human pinsetters. P-Dubs Brew Pub will move from its location on South Street to the new establishment, which will include a built-in wood-fire pizza oven. Harrison has planned two meeting rooms of about 2,500 square feet each with a capacity of 105 to 140 people. Each room will be equipped with roll-up doors for indoor/outdoor events. Harrison expects to add games such as corn hole, pickelball and possibly shuffleboard for seniors.
Harrison said he plans for the brewery to be a way to help local brewers get started. A one-barrel brewery is planned that can be used by local home brewers to experiment. A 10-barrel brewery is also underway.
Harrison said he came to Tehachapi from the Antelope Valley about 20 years ago to build stucco homes but never planned to live here. But when he was looking for a better place to raise his kids he did indeed move here. He said his 13-year-old daughter hated making the move but thanked him by the time she was 17. Since then, entrepreneur Harrison has started several businesses including Heat Source and P-Dubs.
"I want to help the community," said Harrison. By all accounts, the new facility housing Mountain Bowling, Tehachapi Mountain Brewing Co. and P-Dubs Brew Pub will be a great addition to Tehachapi.
The Rotary Club of Tehachapi is a volunteer service organization with the motto, "Service Above Self." The club meets on Thursdays at noon.
