A small sample of the books coming up for sale at the Friends of the Library Big Book Sale in October.

The Friends of the Library "Big Book Sale" this year is Oct. 16 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and 17 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) is going to be another 2-in-1 sale. This means that there will be a section with individually priced books and a section with Bag Sale books.

On Saturday there will be a typical book sale with individually priced books in one area. Some of these include a 4th edition of Nathaniel Hawthorne's Tanglewood Tales, a copy of Doctor Dolittle in the Moon by Hugh Lofting, and signed copies of American Gothic by Robert Bloch (the author of Psycho) and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind by Gong Show host Chuck Barris. There will be many other antique and specialty books located in this section.

The other section of books for sale will be for the ever popular "Bag Sale". For these books you get a bag for $3 and then can fill it up with the books from this area. These will include fiction and non-fiction books for you to choose from.

On Sunday, the sale becomes a "Clearance Sale". Bag prices drop to $1 and the individually priced books will be 50 percent off. Note that with the Apple Festival happening right in front of the Library you will need to park elsewhere. If you decide you just have to have a large number of books the Friends of the Library will try to help you get them to your car.

If you have books you'd like to donate, come by when the Library is open (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday noon to 6 p.m.) and drop them off. You're welcome to bring in two boxes or bags of books per day. The Friends of the Library volunteers work before the library opens Wednesday through Friday to sort and clean the books brought in. These books go into either the Continuing Book Sale downstairs or set aside to provide books for the "Big Sales."

If you'd like to join in and volunteer with the Friends of the Library, contact us at FOLTehachapi@gmail.com or (661) 750-2818.
