Jenny Lavers from AIS Cancer Center speaks to Rotarians.

On September 16, Jenny Lavers from Adventist Health AIS Cancer Center addressed the Tehachapi Rotary Club giving some of the background and functions of the center. Lavers is Administrative Director of Service Lines for the center. She told Rotarians that the AIS Cancer Center was founded in 2013, filling a real need in the Bakersfield community. Formerly, over 20 percent of cancer patients had to leave the area for treatment. The center now services over 9,000 patients per year.

AIS is working to have a presence in Tehachapi. With the new MRI/CT facility opening at the end of this year at Adventist Health Tehachapi Valley, screenings will be available for breast, colon, lung and prostate cancers. The new screening facility will also have 3D mammography.

AIS Cancer Center will be a sponsor of this year's Bark for Life in Tehachapi, which will be held on October 2 at the Tehachapi Depot Museum. They will be offering at-home colorectal screenings kits at the event.

Lavers commutes to work daily from Glennville, where she and her husband own a cattle ranch.

The Rotary Club of Tehachapi is a volunteer service organization with the motto "Service Above Self." The Club has 30 members and are currently meeting on Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. If you would like more information about Rotary Club, you can visit their Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/RotaryClubofTehachapi/ or contact club President Paul Kaminski, (661) 699-5851.
