What's Up in Bear Valley Springs?

September 11, 2021

The BVS CSD encourages us to get involved in our community. The opportunities are numerous, ranging from becoming a trained volunteer with CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), Red Cross or Salvation Army or connecting with an isolated neighbor (especially the elderly). During this dry summer we are more than ever potential victims of a fire.

Also in CSD news, generators have been installed in seven of the 11 locations, so that people won’t be left high and dry due to a possible Public Safety Power Shutoff. Wells 31 and 32 have been rehabilitated and are being flushed into Four-Island Lake. Striping for Lower Valley Rd., Greenwater Dr., Jamaica Dunes Dr., Rolling Oak Dr. and Pinedale Dr. has been approved. Striping should have been started by mid-August.

The BVS CSD is at work in the restructuring of the Mulligan Room patio. It will be off limits for a few weeks. Fortunately, they do have the little side patio as a refuge. No food service is offered over there, though. You must go inside and order at the counter.

On Tuesday, Aug. 24, we lost a valued member of our community. Todd Lander had been fighting cancer and passed that day. Todd was a man who lived to serve: his country, fighting in Vietnam, and this community for 14 years on the BVSA Board, many of them as president. But, that wasn’t all. Todd wrote and had published a book about his year in Vietnam, entitled Bound By War. He had a fair amount of success with it, including two book-signing events. Plus, he led line dancing at the Oak Branch Saloon for several years. He was a loving husband to Sandy and father to his two boys. The community suffered a great loss. R.I.P., Todd!
