The newly formed Stallion Springs Artist Exchange had a combined art show and book sale on June 26 at the library. Stallion Springs Administrative Art Executive for the group Christine Sorenson, volunteer Diana Koeth and Library Coordinator Emma Holm were there to welcome guests. Additional events are scheduled for the last Saturdays of July and August at the Stallion Springs Library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stop by and have a cookie and coffee or iced tea and view the local artists work.

The Library also has a children's story hour the third Friday of the month at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Call Noemi Tkacz at (661) 858-6193 if you have any questions.

June Community Meeting

The Stallion Springs Police Department held a community meeting on June 17 to update the residents on issues in the community.

There's been a large increase in juvenile delinquency and vandalism. Arson, drug abuse, vaping, bullying, hate speech, littering and disrespect to authority has been an issue as of late and increasing. SSPD needs the community's help. They are trying to get the community involved to intervene and help the youth, so they don't get put into the criminal justice system.

Intervention is crucial before they have no other choice but to start charging them with criminal charges or giving them tickets. Mental health for these youths is a serious issue. We currently have the highest statistics ever in our community.

The CSD and Police Department need parents to volunteer and help with community events, activities, new programs for the youth. PAL (Police Activities League) needs people from the community to help or else it won't ever get re-established. The Parks and Recreation Department needs ideas and volunteers from the community to help mentor kids and teens.

Police Report

Police Chief Gary Crowell filed a report of statistics for May 2021. The Department had 16 arrests, issued seven citations, had 118 reports, 99 calls for service, completed 38 officer initiated investigations, 47 field interviews, and five medical assists. There were also one vehicle impounded, six vacation house checks and the Department assisted other law enforcement agencies 20 times.

Parks and Recreation

Kid's Summer Day Camp is scheduled for July 19-23 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for ages 9 through 12. Join the camp for crafts, games, swimming and other fun summer activities. Contact the CSD for further information.

Plans for summer include regular open gym hour, a week-long day camp for kids age 7-12 where the Police Department will also come out for safety and activities, a summer camp at Man-O War Park and some movie nights.
