On June 12, Tehachapi Martial Arts Center hosted the 15th Annual Combat Hapkido Seminar. Combat Hapkido also known as the "Science of Self-Defense," was developed by Grandmaster John Pellegrini in 1990. The annual event is hosted by Grandmaster Ivan Jadric (with over 55 years of martial arts training, Grandmaster in Combat Hapkido and Taekwondo) and Maria Jadric (black belt in Taekwondo, third Dan in Combat Hapkido). Grandmaster and Maria Jadric founded Tehachapi Martial Arts Center in 1991 and have devoted their lives to supporting the Tehachapi Community, and teaching students the discipline, dedication, and personal development inherent in the study of Martial Arts and self-defense. The event was led by fifth Dan Master in Combat Hapkido Derek Demus and third Dan Black Belt Mark Oskay.

The 15th Annual Combat Hapkido Seminar was attended by more than 30 participants, many who drove several hours to attend the event, and some with minimal previous exposure or training in martial arts. The presentation demonstrated joint locks, pressure points, body mechanics, hand strikes and low kicks. Participants were shown how to defend by exercising control of an opponent through break aways, force redirection, footwork, distractive striking and body positioning. Defensive cane and knife curriculum was also exhibited during the event. The flexible techniques demonstrated easy application from almost any situation to defend against attack.
