On June 19, Crown for a Cause partnered with Houchin Community Blood Bank to operate their third in a series of five Tehachapi mobile blood drives. The Crown for a Cause blood drives are organized by Tehachapi resident Tiffany Rea, Miss United States.

The drive had a total of 32 people registered and 26 units of blood were able to be used by Houchin. Between the blood drives sponsored by the City of Tehachapi and TVRPD and Crown for a Cause, the Tehachapi community continues to be very generous in their support of the Community Blood Bank. All blood donated at these blood drives stays in Kern County. Houchin is in need of all blood types.

According to their website, "One pint of blood can save up to three lives. If we come together as a community, arm in arm, how many lives could we save?" Information on becoming a blood, platelet and/or plasma donor can be found on the Houchin website hcbb.com or by calling (661) 323-4222.

The next mobile Crown for a Cause blood drive will be held Saturday, Aug. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Kmart parking lot on Tehachapi Blvd. Book your appointment early; reservations fill up fast.
