Tehachapi School Board Update

At their June 22 meeting, the Board of the Tehachapi Unified School District honored four Tehachapi High School graduating seniors. Three of the honorees were THS co-valedictorians for the year 2020-21. They were chosen for their GPA for grades 9 -12, their AP classes and other activities.

Rebecca Carol graduated with an overall GPA of 4.3953. She was in the top 10 students at THS for all four years. Rebecca played basketball, was a Mathlete, played the cello and was Vice President of the Safe School Ambassadors among her many school accomplishments. The American Legion Auxiliary chose her as their representative at Girls' State. She will be attending the University of California Santa Barbara studying veterinary medicine.

Benjamin Zheng graduated with an overall 4.4762 GPA and was also in the top 10 students for four years. Among his accomplishments at THS, Benjamin was a Mathlete and was on the cross-country team. He plays the piano and was named best young artist on the violin. The American Legion named Benjamin as Boys' State representative. He will be attending Master's University and plans to study biology and follow a pre-med course.

Emma Barrett graduated with an overall 4.45 GPA, excelling in all her AP classes and was particularly drawn to Biology and plans a career in the medical field. She was a Safe Schools Ambassador and an Interact representative among many other activities. Emma will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo studying animal science and plans to go on to UC Davis after that.

Scott Buge was also honored at the meeting. Scott is the first student from Tehachapi High School to ever receive his high school diploma and an AA and AS from Cerro Coso as a Phi Theta Kappa honor student at the same time. He will be attending Northern Arizona University as a math major and will be in the ROTC before joining the Air Force. You can read more on Scott in the June 5 issue of The Loop newspaper.

The Board of Tehachapi Unified School District meets at 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at District Offices located at 300 S. Robinson St. Meetings are currently in person and virtual.
