Charlene "Charlie" Gayle Smith, age 65, of Tehachapi, passed away on Sunday, June 20 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio surrounded by her loved ones. Charlene and her husband, Jon had recently relocated to Ohio.

She was born October 27, 1955, in Bakersfield to Charlie T. "Tom" and Juanita Vestal Wall.

Charlie married Jon Vincent Smith in July 2001, and he survives along with their children: Alicia (Carlos) Hernandez and Farrah (Coby) Shumay of Tehachapi; 

Clifford "Kalup" (Desiree) Quinton of Harker Heights, Texas; Vincent (Kelly) Smith of Mendon, Ohio; Angelika (Tim) Bohanna of Topeka, Kansas; and Duane and Jon Smith, both of Corpus Christi, Texas. 22 grandchildren, including: Desiree, Jessica, Maile, Aubrie, Gabbie, Malayzah, Brendan, Kristin, Cordin, Taylor, Christopher, Gavin,  Patrick, Katilyn, Miranda, Taylor, Tyler, Brianna and Abigail; and 13 great grandchildren. Siblings: Debbie Wall LaClair of South Carolina; Keith and Larry Wall of Washington; and Will Wall of Arkansas.


She was preceded in death by her mother and a daughter, Christina Smith. 

Charlene was a Registered Nurse in the Tehachapi area, and had been a traveling nurse.  She attended Highland Community College and graduated from Kansas State University.

An amazing mother and grandmother, Charlie loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and having monthly dinners with the family.  

She particularly enjoyed RV travel, camping and fishing.  She was an avid reader, and was very devoted to her rescue dogs, Baby and Pretty.

Funeral service was held at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, Ohio, and the burial at Mendon Cemetery, near Mendon, Ohio.
