What's Up in Bear Valley Springs?

June 19, 2021

The gun range will be opening for those who enjoy target shooting. Please call the Whiting Center for hours of operation and rules of use.

The tennis courts welcome youth for instructional classes in July. On July 5, there will be instruction for kids 5-12 years of age, and includes ball skills and movement. On July 12, the focus will be on intermediate players, ages 8-14.

Due to the ongoing loss of wildlife, a Wildlife Protection Coalition has been set up and will be meeting with some regularity. It is open to all concerned residents. Email bvswpc@gmail.com with any questions.

The Lake Quality Advisory Committee has been working on our lakes. Both Cub Lake and Four Island Lake are open for recreational use. As most of you know, we have had a serious algae bloom due to phosphate run-off, but a remedy has been found in the product Phoslock. It is a clay that absorbs phosphates, reducing the phosphate bloom. It does not harm humans, pets, fish or wildlife. As we know, our elk love bathing in Cub Lake. See the BVS E-Buzz newsletter (week of June 7) for more info on the Phoslock application.

One of the favorite activities in the community has been the sponsoring of a concert in the park at Cub Lake by the BVS Cultural Arts Association. Last summer’s concert had to be canceled due to the Coronavirus. But this year, it looks set to go. The CAA asks for a small donation, as there is no “door fee” to attend. The ever-popular local band Blonde Mustard will perform for us on Sunday, July 25 from 3-5 p.m. Bring your own lawn chair and snacks, plus wine if you are so inclined.

Fourth of July activities are back. Check out all the activities at http://www.bvsa.org/posts/4th-of-july-weekend-activities.

Bear Valley Springs is a private gated community in which the residents pay an annual association amenities fee. To participate in the above events, a non-member or non-resident must arrange with a friend or family member in the community for a guest pass that would permit them to engage in the activities. Guest passes will be checked.
