Tehachapi Development Services Director Jay Schlosser presented three road projects for a vote at the April 19 City Council meeting.

Every year the City of Tehachapi receives an allocation from the SB1 Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (Gas Tax) amounting to about $270,000. Schlosser presented a list of 45 streets within three residential areas to receive new surface treatments for 2021. Although the streets within these neighborhoods are currently in relatively good shape, the seal coat will add five to seven more years to their life. Every year the City Council must approve these projects and voted to award the project to American Asphault South, Inc., the lowest bidder at $238,625. Schlosser said that as the bid was below the award amount, it may be possible to add more streets if necessary. The seal coat will be applied over three to four weeks beginning at the end of May.

The City Council also approved R.C. Becker and Son, Inc. to complete the sidewalk, curb and gutter project on Snyder Avenue all the way from Tehachapi Boulevard to Valley Boulevard. Becker is the same contractor who completed the Tehachapi Boulevard Park and Ride. This project is also 100 percent grant funded.

The third approval was for the final piece of the agreement for the extension of Pinon Street from Brandon Lane to Dennison Road. The agreement between the City and CalTrans is for the Preliminary Engineering phase of the project.

Two event applications were also approved by the Council. The National Day of Prayer will be held on May 6 from 12-1 p.m. in front of City Hall and on Monday, May 31 there will be a Memorial Day Parade on F Street from Mulberry Street to Davis Street.
