Police Chief Gary Crowell and Stallion Springs Police Department are asking for the community's support for the "Be a Roll Model" bicycle helmet safety campaign.
The focus of this program is the safety and education of our youth in our community. Under California Law any child under the age of 18 must wear a helmet when riding or operating a bicycle, non-motorized scooter, electric motorized boards (hover boards), skateboards or inline skates.
Wearing a bicycle helmet is about more than just obeying the law. It's also the best way to prevent serious and fatal head injuries. Every year nearly 2,000 children in California are sent to the emergency room with serious bicycle related injuries, almost a third of which are traumatic brain injuries. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) studies have shown that wearing a helmet can reduce the odds of head injuries by more than 50 percent and the odds of injuries to the neck, face and head by 33 percent.
The Stallion Springs Police Department is in need of monetary donations for the purchase of bike helmets, a safety coupon incentive program and educational materials for our community. Donations can be made to the Support Stallion Springs Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your donations are 100 percent tax-deductible. Just tell the SSCSD staff your donation is for the "Bike Safety" campaign. Please contact the Stallion Springs Community Services District at (661) 822-3268 or swing by for more information.
Police officers will be monitoring the area and will pass out coupons and information to youth in the community.
Clean Up Day
Residents with big bulky items ready to dispose of may bring them to the Stallion Springs Community Center Parking Lot for easy disposal on May 1 starting at 9 a.m. until the bins are full. If the bins are full or you are not a Stallion resident take the items to the Tehachapi landfill.
Items not accepted include, household hazardous waste, construction waste, asphalt, concrete, tires, alkaline batteries, fluorescent tubes or light bulbs.
Weed Abatement
Spring is here and it's time to tackle the weeds. Spraying began for the roads and district easements. Letters have gone out and our lot mowing crew will begin in June. Please be sure to be fire compliant and help keep our community safe.
Parks and Recreation
A 5K Color Run is being planned for May 22. Cost is $15 per person. Come dressed in all white and leave with a very colorful look.
Yoga has begun on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Community Center with Sonya Cook as the instructor.
We are looking into RecDesk, an online website for parks programs and sign-ups to make parks more easily accessible to the community.
A Craft Day scheduled for adults on Tuesday, April 27 and May 20 at 6 p.m. A day for kids is set for May 19 at 5 p.m. For more information contact the CSD.

Stallion Springs Board of Directors
The Board meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. normally in the CSD Boardroom. The next meeting will be held May 18 at 6 p.m. in the CSD Board room, at the Community Center or Zoom subject to the restrictions created by COVID-19.
