What's Up in Bear Valley Springs?
March 27, 2021
Our community has had a 10 percent changeover in residency this year and new residents are likely just beginning to find their way around. Our amenities are many and varied with plenty of clubs and facilities, most still open despite the Coronavirus.
One feature that may not have yet attracted many new folks, and even some long-time residents, is the Kawaiisu Preserve, which opened officially on October 22, 2017, with a ceremony guided by the local Nuwa elder, Luther Girado, (recently deceased). The ceremony drew in over 100 in attendance. The Preserve has over 50 grinding holes (matates) that were used in centuries past to grind acorns. So, how do you find this interesting amenity? Travel up Jacaranda for three miles to Stirrup Way. Turn left on Stirrup and go the short distance to Sunset Way. On Stirrup at Sunset you will see a parking area. There is a maintained path up into the center of the Preserve, complete with signs and benches. Do check it out. It is an historic experience and a local treasure.
We have a few Rangers in the community who look out for the amenities, to make sure guests have their passes, for instance. One particular Ranger stood out recently in an heroic save. A solo hiker had not returned from the Pinedale Trail, and a mountain lion with cubs, as well as a bear had been discovered in the area. Rocco Spinelli has great tracking skills and determined by the tracks that the hiker was becoming fatigued. A helicopter was able to spot the hiker and sent Rocco in the right direction. A sheriff’s officer accompanying Rocco was able to provide the hiker with warm clothes and guided him back to safety. A great shoutout to Rocco!
Bear Valley Springs is a private gated community in which the residents pay an annual association amenities fee. To participate in the above events, a non-member or non-resident must arrange with a friend or family member in the community for a guest pass that would permit them to engage in the activities. Guest passes will be checked.
