Guardians Around The Earth (GATE) invites you to get outside and help beautify Tehachapi for Earth Day by gathering litter during our Tehachapi Cleanup event on Monday, April 19 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Volunteers meet at 9:30 a.m. (*after-school joiners meet at 1 p.m.*) in the lot at the corner of Dennison Road and Tehachapi Boulevard (next to Gracian's Grill).

Tehachapi Cleanup mobilizes volunteers to remove litter along Tehachapi Boulevard from Dennison to Tehachapi-Willow Springs Roads. Water and cleanup gear such as safety vests, trash bags and gloves are provided to cleanup helpers. We encourage participants to wear masks, proper attire and sunscreen. Individual and family group volunteers will be assigned cleanup sections to ensure safe distancing. GATE works closely with the City of Tehachapi, Earth Day Network http://www.earthday.org/earth-day-2021/ and other community partners to make this event a success.

Impacts from this cleanup go far beyond Tehachapi. Wind plays a large part in the attraction and pollution of the Tehachapi corridor. Trash left uncollected within our city continues to tumble wind-blown onto agricultural areas in neighboring mountain valleys and outlying wilderness areas. Particulate plastic from trash impacts wildlife, agricultural soils, and groundwater. Environmental Health News reports (www.ehn.org/plastic-in-farm-soil-and-food-2647384684.html) more plastic pollutants are found in farm soils than in our ocean. Microplastic fibers also occur in tap and bottled water, fruits, veggies, and other food sources.

"One person, one action can change our world," stated Marisa Folse, co-founder of GATE. "When we work together, each act creates positive impacts. Tehachapi Cleanup is a great opportunity for families and friends to get out and give back to this community we love. Our efforts Keep Tehachapi Beautiful."
