The Tehachapi Winegrowers Commission announced this week that Tehachapi vineyards made a big splash at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition in January. Three local vineyards submitted their wines this year and all three brought home awards.

Tehachapi Wine and Cattle Company, Tehachapi's first vineyard, received a Silver for their 2017 Primitivo and a Best of Class for the 2017 Primitivo bottle design in the Luxury Packaging division.

Ilda Vaja of Rancho de los Viejeros Vineyard announced that her vineyard received a Double Gold for its 2018 Malbec.

Triassic Vineyard has been entering wines in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition for the last several years, bringing home awards each year entered. This year is no exception as every wine that owner Jim Arnold submitted garnered an award.

• 2017 Syrah- Gold

• Big Bang – Zinfandel blend – Gold

• Legacy – Syrah blend – Silver

• 2019 Viognier – Silver

• 2019 Viognier Oaked – Silver

• 2019 Viognier Semi-Sweet – Bronze

• Rocks – Syrah blend – Bronze

Tehachapi Winery operated by Mike Chan and Marc Nail submitted their wines to the San Francisco International Wine Competition at the end of last October with their Syrah and Merlot each winning Gold and their Malbec winning bronze.

This is an impressive record for the new Tehachapi Mountains American Viticultural Area (AVA), especially in a year with so many social restrictions.
