I wanted to give everyone an update from the Tehachapi CANCER FOUNDATION. To say 2020 was a rough year is an understatement with businesses having to shut down or scale back, high unemployment and being on a “stay at home” order.
We humans are very resilient and adjust as needed. It is not an easy adjustment but we are survivors.
Nonprofits were hit hard also. With no in-person fundraisers allowed, it affected nonprofits deeply. The annual “Screw Cancer” John Gardner memorial fundraiser had to be cancelled. But through social media fundraisers and online auctions (Phoenix Wood Designs) we are still able to assist. We had to scale back how we help, but those that needed help got it. We are currently assisting five families with their needs.
We were able to supply gas cards. Chemo and radiation is not local and a 90 mile minimum roundtrip for this treatment is not cheap. Many people find much needed relief by using CBD products. Tehachapi CANCER FOUNDATION is able to supply these products free of charge. Grocery store cards are also a big assist.
We have been able to assist with other needs also. We don’t have strict guidelines on what we can do to assist. We have helped buy tires for their cars, oil changes, assisted with copays and have paid utility bills.
TCF also will help do research to find out what is out there that may assist our clients. We have partnered with a house cleaning service. We have also worked with a “non-medical” transportation company.
Sometimes just having someone to talk to is a huge help. Some of our current and past clients will reach out and share their experience. Just to talk with someone who has gone through what they are going through is a big help.
We are 100 percent donation supported and all monies raised stay in the 93561 area. We are still blessed to receive private donations. Our village is very kind hearted. We could not help our friends and neighbors without your support.
