Does your cat drink enough water?

Have you ever wondered if your cat is drinking enough water? Cats very rarely go in search of their water bowls. This is because they are considered desert animals and tend to get much of their necessary fluids from the food that they eat. Even with the best of kibble, cats can become dehydrated because there just isn't a lot moisture in dry food. A cat that doesn't get the moisture they need can end up with health problems down the road: dehydration, urinary stones and even kidney stones.

There are some easy solutions to helping your kitty get the hydration they need. One, you can add a little canned food to their daily meals. There is more moisture in a can of wet food than a scoop of kibble. The second is buying a fountain for their water bowl. Having a regular water bowl next to their food bowl is good, but a fountain peaks their curiosity.

They will happily ignore a stand alone water bowl, however, water in motion attracts most felines. Curiously sniffing the fountain quickly leads to them taking a few gulps of the fresh water. The moving water in the fountain is continuously fortified with oxygen and tastes fresher than water sitting stagnant in a bowl. If you do not think you are ready for the investment of a drinking fountain for your cat, place multiple small water bowls around your home. Seeing the choices, your cat will hopefully be intrigued enough to drink water out of at least one of the bowls.
