Tehachapi Police Foundation was honored to present two scholarships to very deserving students from Tehachapi High School on Tuesday, June 9 at the Tehachapi Police Station. This year we were able to offer the Rubien Brandon Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 and the Jacob Langston Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Rubien Brandon was a man dedicated to building bridges between the police department and the community. Rubien served on the founding board of the foundation and was chairperson for several years. He had encouraging words for everyone he met, was generous to the community and supported our police department. He spoke often about how important it was to encourage young people to become involved in law enforcement and the criminal justice field. Upon his death, a fund was established to make this scholarship possible.
This years recipient of the Rubien Brandon Memorial Scholarship is Anjolie Scognamillo. Anjolie graduated from Tehachapi High School and will be attending Bakersfield College to begin her studies in nursing and criminal justice. We congratulate her and wish her the best of luck in her studies.
Jacob Langston was a student at Tehachapi High School and a member of the Tehachapi Police Explorers Program. Jacob hoped to pursue a study career in law enforcement. Tragically, his life was cut short in a boating accident. Jacob's family and friends wanted to remember him and this scholarship was set up in his memory.
This years recipient of the Jacob Langston Memorial Scholarship is Jack Clarke. Jack graduated from Tehachapi High School and will be attending Cerro Coso Community College to obtain his EMT and then on to further education studies. We wish Jack all the best in his future endeavors and say "congratulations."
