Town Hall Meeting

There will be a Town Hall Meeting at 9 a.m. on Feb. 29 at the Community Center to discuss solid waste issues.

The Solid Waste Surveys are available at the CSD Office. The surveys will be tallied and the results will be presented. A number of important issues such as: Handouts that update and address a number of questions and issues received in response to the survey.

A discussion regarding the existing set up and proposed set up for solid waste.

A better estimate of costs involved in looking at the various options and discussion about how that would impact the current waste charges.

We are working to have a Waste Management and Kern County Solid Waste representatives present at the meeting.

New Lead Recreation Aide

Shawnee Villarreal said, "I am excited to be the new Lead Recreation Aide for Stallion Springs. I have been lucky enough to grow up in Tehachapi, where I have found my love for people, community and lending a hand to those in need, which led me to get my Bachelor's in Psychology. During college, my interests in being active and exploring the outdoors grew, leading me to take extra courses in parks and recreation. This is where I learned that teaching others about the power of play is one of the best lessons you can share.

As the Lead Recreation Aide, I hope to bring more programs and opportunities to the community and to give people of all ages the chance to get out and be active. Some of the programs I would like to offer are trail days, toddler time, family sports days, senior group walks, movie nights, music in the park and more. I am especially excited to be working in the community I grew up in. Stop by and say hello during open gym as I would love to hear your ideas for community fun."

Parks and Recreation

All new Parent and Me program to begin Tuesday March 3 at 9:30 a.m. at the Community Center. Join us weekly for music, crafts, games, story time, stroller walks and lots of indoor and outdoor fun! It's a great way to meet parents and kids in your community! Bring your own snacks, coffee and juice provided. The cost is $6 per day or $20 per month. Sign up by Friday Feb. 28 to ensure supplies needed.

Fun Fridays: a new event has been started for the teens in the community. Every Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. teens ages 11 and up can come and hang out for free fun. There is volleyball, ping-pong, basketball, Pictionary, a coffee/cocoa bar and more.

Free Yoga is back classes will be offered every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Free Pickle Ball in the gymnasium Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. All levels are welcome, come join in the fun.

Judo continues in the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

February Craft Night

Learn how to make string art. String art is the weaving of colored string, wool or yarn between hammered nails to make geometric patterns. Class includes all materials and instruction. The class is scheduled for Friday evening Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Cost is $15, pre-register at the CSD.

Summer Jobs

Looking for a great summer job?

Stallion Springs Parks and Recreation along with the TVRPD is hiring Seasonal Certified Lifeguards.

Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you'll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED along with other skills you will need to work as a professional lifeguard. Successful completion results in a 2-year certification in lifeguarding that includes first aid professional-level CPR and AED in one certificate. Digital certificate available upon successful completion of course.

Age is 15 and up. Class dates are March 12, 4 to 6 p.m .; March 13, 4 to 7 p.m. and March 14, 8 to 4 p.m. Additional dates for May to be announced. Classes will be at the Dye Natatorium, 400-B South Snyder. Cost $35 pre-course online module and $150 for the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Class.

CERT

The Stallion Springs CERT team is preparing a CERT Basic Training Class for Spring 2020. The class will be at the Community Center. If you wish to make an appointment to speak with an Officer contact the CSD at (661) 822-3268. Appointments maybe canceled at any time due to limited police staffing.

Stallion Springs Board of Directors

The Board meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the CSD Board room. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 18.
