Karen Nell Stewart, of Tehachapi, Calif, peacefully passed away in the early hours of Jan. 31, 2020.

Born to parents Vernon and Edna Smith, Karen grew up in Visalia, Calif.  She had two brothers.  After graduating high school, she worked for Pacific Bell, then went on to stay at home with her two children, Kim and Kirk, as a full-time mom.

Known as "Grandma" to everyone, family was always Karen's priority.  She was very involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives.  Karen spent her time volunteering in their classes, serving as a Den Mother for her son, Kirk, while he was in Cub Scouts, and a robotics coach for her granddaughter, Nicole.  She always made sure everyone was cared for and loved.

Karen loved books and was an avid Nicholas Sparks reader.  She used to call her son Kirk, "Peter Pan," because he used to take in all the "Lost Boys."  She was always willing to be spontaneous and go on last minute trips, some of those including road trips to Seattle and The Grand Canyon. She also went with her family many other places such as New York City and Hawaii, once even traveling to 10 different states in nine days.

The Lord blessed us with 12 more years with her after she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer, which she so courageously fought.

Karen's Celebration of Life was held on Friday, Feb. 7 at Wood Family Funeral Service.

Wood Family Funeral Service was entrusted with her care. For condolences, please visit http://www.woodmortuary.net.
