A small sample of the books that will be on sale by the Friends of the Library on Feb. 15.

Here we are in the year 2020 and it's already almost time for the first Friends of the Library's Seasonal Book Sale. That's right, the Winter Book Sale is coming up on Feb. 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. And it is again two book sales in one. One is the ever popular "Bag Sale" where you buy a bag and fill it up with any of the books in the bag sale room, which is a deal that can't be beat.

The second sale is the Antique, Rare and Special Books sale. These books are priced as marked and are still great buys. This time there are a lot of special books, one of which is a boxed set of "Warriors: The Prophecies Begin" by Erin Hunter (pseudonym for a few different writers). And if you're looking to learn new things, there a few of the Great Courses sets like "The Meaning of Life" or "The Great Tours, Greece and Turkey." There is also an American first edition of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." Then there are some great coffee table books such as "Gaudi, The Complete Printmaker" and "Influential Country Styles."

As for antique books there are several first editions for you to check out. For you history buffs, there is "The Woodrow Wilsons" by Eleanor Wilson McAdoo from 1937 ... a first edition. (Eleanor was Woodrow Wilson's youngest daughter.) Other first editions from the 30s include "Mozart" by Marcia Davenport and "Europa In Limbo" by Robert Briffault. And if those aren't old enough for you how about "A Journey in Search of Christmas" by Owen Wister from 1904 or a three volume set of "The Centennial History of Oregon 1811- 1911" by Joseph Gaston from 1912, also first editions.

And if that sounds like a lot of books, well it is. But if you've got books you'd like to donate there is always room for more at this Winter Book Sale. Oh and not just books of course, the Friends of the Library happily accepts audio books, CDs and DVDs. While the Friends of the Library likes you to donate them in reasonable quantities (three or four boxes or bags at a time) if you're wanting to donate more, get in touch with the Friends of the Library and something can probably be arranged.

As you can probably see, these Seasonal Book Sales are big jobs and require a lot of work to set up and then clean up afterwards. While the Friends of the Library has gotten pretty efficient with these tasks, more volunteers will certainly be appreciated. Set up will be Feb. 14 in the afternoon and clean up will be happening on Wednesday, Feb. 19 (due to the library being closed Monday for President's Day). If you'd like to help out with the sale, make sure and get in touch with the Friends of the Library.

So, there it is, the perfect Valentine's/President's Day Weekend for book lovers: the Tehachapi Friends of the Library's first Big Book Sale of 2020. In addition, Ms. Sharon of Laugh and Learn Preschool will have some Valentine's activities for kids going on during the sale. So come on out and buy books to help the Friends of the Library support all that the Tehachapi Library is doing for our community. And if you'd like to do more ... either a large donation or to volunteer to help, contact the Friends of the Library at FOLTehachapi@gmail.com or (661) 750-2818.

Don't forget that the Friends of the Library's expanded Book Shop at the bottom of the stairs is open for you to show your support every day the Library is open.
