Lisa Marie’s Day Spa is located in a charming bungalow at 314 W. F St. in Tehachapi. Lisa Nires, the owner, moved to Tehachapi from the Sacramento area where she operated as an esthetician and massage therapist. The spa has been open for about two-and-one-half years and exudes a very homey and serene atmosphere. One can almost feel the tensions of the day dissolving upon entering the spa.

The spa is home to two nail artists, a dedicated massage therapist, and Lisa, who is a multi-licensed esthetician and a licensed massage therapist. Lisa is licensed in and specializes in many different types of skin and body care, including cancer care facials. A short list of Lisa’s areas of expertise in skin care includes basic facials, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, high frequency facials, microcurrent facials, Rezenerate™ NanoFacial, acne treatment and facial cupping, which aids lymphatic drainage. Lisa incorporates neck and shoulder massages into her facials as well. She also performs LED light therapy. LED, or light emitting diode therapy, is a skincare treatment that uses varying wavelengths of light, typically red and blue. LEDs do not include ultraviolet rays.

NASA originally developed LED light therapy for plant growth experiments on shuttle missions and later found it to have promise for wound treatment. LED light therapy is now used to help regenerate skin from the effects of aging and for treating acne. (www.healthline.com/health/beauty-skin-care/led-light-therapy).

For facial and body hair, Lisa performs waxing, sugaring and threading. Lisa indicates that sugaring is a gentler experience than traditional waxing. Unlike waxing, sugaring only pulls out the hairs and does not disturb the surface of the skin as the paste does not stick to the skin.

Lisa also sells several lines of all natural skin care and makeup, including Skin Script (clinical based skin care), iS Clinical (botanical based skin care) and Osmosis, a medical grade all natural product line.

Lisa is a firm believer in continuing education and is currently studying to become certified in microblading (for brows). At this time she is not focusing on massage therapy.

Johnett Latone of Nature’s Touch Massage Therapy is a licensed massage therapist who has been working out of Lisa Marie’s Day Spa for the past couple of years. Johnett studied at the Ohio School of Massage Therapy, graduating in 2005. She took the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork in 2006 and is California and nationally certified. She came to California from Ohio to be closer to her elderly parents.

Johnett mentioned that the difference between a masseuse and a massage therapist is education and the types of classes taken. A masseuse studies for six months and takes general classes. A massage therapist studies for two years, which includes pre-med classes in anatomy and physiology. A masseuse is a practitioner who performs different types of massages in a spa-type environment while a massage therapist is licensed to do actual therapy as well as the different styles of massage. Both masseuses and massage therapists operate in a very serene environment, at times using sensory aids such as aromatherapy and soothing music.

Johnett offers deep tissue massages, sometimes utilizing hot stones. She also offers a 30 minute sonic foot detox, which is designed to extract toxins of various types from different parts of the body. Additionally, Johnett offers a paraffin wax treatment for the hands to moisturize and soften.

Johnett believes in continuing education and is presently studying facial cupping.
