The Tehachapi Police Department and City of Tehachapi joined to sponsor an "emergency go bag for two" giveaway at National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

The drawing required people to sign up for Nixle emergency alert notifications from the police department by texting "Tehachapi" (without the quotes) to 888777.

Approximately 65 people registered to receive the alerts and were entered into the drawing. On Wednesday, Aug. 7 a winner was pulled from the entry forms. City of Tehachapi resident Steve Dickson won the 72- hour emergency supply backpack for two people. The kit contained basic medical supplies, emergency food rations, water and a few other necessities for an emergency.

Steve dropped by Tehachapi City Hall and received his prize from Tehachapi Police Chief Kent Kroeger and Tehachapi City Manager Greg Garrett.

We encourage the Tehachapi community to register for the free Nixle emergency service that the City of Tehachapi and Tehachapi Police Department use to disseminate emergency alerts to the public. Simply text Tehachapi to 888777.
