Back to School driver safety

Tehachapi Police Department

August 17, 2019

The Tehachapi Police Department would like to remind everyone children are going back to school this week in the Tehachapi area.

“This should be an exciting time of year for children, heading back to school to see their friends and we want it to be safe for everyone,” said Kent Kroeger Chief of Police.

We want to remind everyone safety is something we all can contribute to especially this time of year.

Common violations seen by police officers during the school year include:

1) Passing a school bus with red lights flashing.

2) Illegal U-turns (by parents dropping off children).

3) Illegal unloading of students in bus loading zones.

4) Double-parking or stopping your vehicle in a traffic lane to off-load children.

5) Speeding in a school zone with children present.

6) Distracted driving (texting or cell phone use).

Our officers will be enforcing all traffic laws and we encourage everyone to drive safely and remember, children are unpredictable, use caution.
