Free childrens I.D. Kits will be available to parents who stop by the Tehachapi Masonic Lodge booth during National Night Out. The event, in its 36th year nationally, will take place in Tehachapi at Central Park from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6. There will be more than 30 organizations in attendance.

"We are happy to partner with an organization like the Masonic Lodge on a child safety identification kit for parents, just in time for back to school," said Chief Kent Kroeger.

The Tehachapi Police Department had recently begun to explore creating their own Child I.D. Kit and the Tehachapi Masonic Lodge offered to share what they have been doing for our community over the past few years.

The Child I.D. Kit provided by the Masons will give the parents a quick document that includes a photo, fingerprints, DNA sample and basic information for them to give to public safety in a moment all parents hope to never need.

Families are encouraged to attend. This year a bicycle/scooter rodeo will be available for children 12 and under. Cycle and Go bicycle shop will conduct a safety inspection of the children's bicycles and then they can go through an obstacle course. Participants will receive a helmet while supplies last. A "Glow Walk" will take place at 8 p.m. followed by a movie in the park hosted by TVRPD.
