The Tehachapi Police Department and the Tehachapi Police Foundation are hosting National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6 in Central Park.

“We invite families to join us in the park for a fun and educational experience with your local public safety professionals,” said Key Budge, Community Engagement Specialist.

The event has been themed, Emergency Preparedness and Awareness, by our public safety partners. Joining TPD will be the Kern County Fire Department, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, California Highway Patrol, Edwards Air Force Base Office of Emergency Services, CERT, Teen CERT, Tehachapi Valley Hospital District, City of Tehachapi, Tehachapi Amateur Radio Association and many more organizations.

There will be emergency preparedness displays, a bicycle/scooter safety rodeo for the kids, a child safety-seat installation demonstration, face painting, metal detection scramble for the kids and a group glow stick walk. Following the event is a movie in the park, hosted by TVRPD.

“We had a great turnout last year, kids had a blast, and we got to know our community a little bit better,” said Budge.

The event is free to all. Free bicycle helmets for children participating in the bike safety rodeo and free hot dogs.
