19th Annual Benz Bad Bulls Tour

It's hard to hang on for 8 seconds. Chowchilla Bull Rider Alex Santana gave it his best shot before a sellout crowd of over 3,000 spectators at the 2018 Bad Bulls Rodeo on 4th of July.

The sport of bull riding has always been a true favorite among the rodeo crowds. Brave cowboys climb aboard a bucking bull that is over 2,000-pounds of muscle and bad attitude. The bull's goal from the moment the chute opens is to spin, twirl, buck and jump to send its rider sailing through the air. Jeff Davis and the Four Star Rodeo Company out of Cottonwood, Calif. raise the bulls supplied for the 19th Annual Benz Bad Bulls Tour. These bulls come from champion stock, known for their natural bucking ability. Kattin' Around is the bull of the evening. He is a prime Four Star Rodeo bull and is the son of Champion Bull Skat Kat. Adding to the bull's innate sense of wanting to buck is the desire to remove the weight of a rider from its back, the cowboy's bull riding equipment and the bull's flank strap. The cowboys look forward to riding bulls like Kattin' Around to test their riding ability and win big money. All of the bulls that will be tested are a result of the selective breeding program, born to buck.

Barrelman Nate "Shotgun" Reed will be on hand to entertain the crowd with his witty comic banter and hilarious routines. But Nate's main goal, along with the athletic bullfighters, is to vigilantly watch over the safety of the young cowboys that may loose their seating during the wild 8-second ride.

Should a young cowboy get twisted up in his rigging and have trouble dismounting his angry bovine, the barrel man and bull fighters all team up to distract the bull and then dive in, risking their own safety if necessary, to help loosen the grip of the cowboy and separate him safely from the bucking bull.

This year we will be adding Barrel Racing to our lineup, and the Diamond in the Rough local youth drill team will be performing at 5:30 p.m. along with the coronation of Miss Rodeo Kern County.

Our association boasts a large group of truly committed volunteers who spend countless hours to create spectacular days of rodeo excitement. We are motivated by a deep love for the community, the sport of professional rodeo and our desire to showcase true Western Americana celebrating the "Western Way of Life."
