Even with the absence of two of their members, the remaining three City Council members, Kenneth Hetge, Susan Wiggins and Phil Smith quickly took care of agenda items at their May 20 meeting.

Approved was a liquor license for a new restaurant, Prime Bar & Grill, to be located on Steuber Rd. in the vacant space that once held Cafe 58. The Prime Bar & Grill will be a family-style restaurant serving a variety of authentic Indian dishes like Tandoori chicken and chicken and lamb kebabs.

There will soon be construction on the south side of Cherry Lane as the City Council awarded the bid for the construction of additional sidewalks and enhanced pedestrian crossings to DOD Construction. Financing of the approximately $400,000 project will be completely grant funded by the Active Transportation Program (ATP). DOD was chosen to complete the project because they are primarily a concrete contractor and the bulk of the project is sidewalk, curb and gutter.

The initial engineering and design phase was approved for enhanced pedestrian crossings on Curry St. at Tompkins Elementary School and on Valley Blvd. at Mill St. Funding for these projects will come from the Cal Trans Highway Safety and Improvement Program (HSIP). Development Services Director Jay Schlosser said that the proposed crossings will include a flashing warning beacon.

Tehachapi City Council meetings are held the first and third Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Wells Education Center, 300 S. Robinson St.
