Kern County Fire Department held a "Sidewalk CPR Event" on Thursday, May 2. Our Stallion Springs Fire Station No. 18 personnel gave instruction on how to administer "Compressions Only CPR." Attendees were trained how to save the life of someone in cardiac arrest in minutes. Instruction for this important process and life-saving skills was free. 

Police Report Be aware of phone scams

Stallion Springs residents have been receiving calls that their Social Security benefits have been canceled by the Social Security Administration. The caller then gives you an option to connect to a "Social Security representative." Once you connect to the "representative" they will try to solicit personal information from you such as addresses, driver's licenses, Social Security numbers and credit card numbers. The caller is pretending to be protecting you from a scam while trying to lure you into one. Do not provide any personal information over the telephone. Social Security numbers do not get suspended and the Social Security Administration will generally not call you on your telephone. 

Here are some tips to deal with these government imposers:

• Don't give the caller your information. Never give out or confirm sensitive information – like your bank account, credit card or Social Security number – unless you know who you're dealing with. If someone has contacted you, you can't be sure who they are.

• Don't trust a name or number. Con artists use official-sounding names to make you trust them. To make their call seem legitimate, scammers use internet technology to spoof their area code – so although it may seem they are calling from Washington, DC, they could be calling from anywhere in the world.

• Check with the Social Security Administration. The SSA has a warning about these scams and suggests you contact them directly at 1-800-772-1213 to verify the reason for the contact and the person's identity prior to providing any information to the caller.

If you come across one of these scams, please report it to the Social Security Administration's Fraud Hotline at 1-800-269-0271, or 1-866-501-2101(TTY), and then tell the FTC about it.

Stallion Springs Library

The Stallion Springs Library is looking for a few volunteers to work 2 to 4 hours a month, please contact Emma Holm at mholm16@yahoo.com or call (719) 640-2220 if you are interested.  The shifts are from 10 a.m. to noon and noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.

The Children's story hour has changed from the first Thursday of the month to the second Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. Come join in on the fun.

Stallion Springs Board of Directors

The District staff and Board of Directors are attempting to feel the pulse of the community on various issues. There have been a few meetings with the Property Owners Association and General Manager regarding phasing out the POA and forming a 501(c)(3) under the umbrella of the CSD. We are still in the discussion stages of this and the Board of Directors will make the ultimate decision should this idea progress. Comment forms on this issue are available at the CSD Office.

The Board meets on the third Tuesday of every month. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 21 at 6 p.m. in the CSD Board Room.
