Sand Canyon project postponed

Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Park District

May 11, 2019

A couple of months ago, the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District made the decision to apply for multiple grants for projects that would expand and renovate Central Park, West Park and build a new park in Sand Canyon.

While the district is still early in the planning process, after two planning meetings with the residents of Sand Canyon, the decision has been made not to move forward with the opportunity in Sand Canyon at this time. The district feels that there needs to be more vetting and communication with the people of Sand Canyon on the grant itself, its potential and the possibilities for that community.

By no means are they closing the door on this project forever. The district will have another opportunity to apply in the next round of grant applications. They are grateful to all who came out to the two meetings that were held in Sand Canyon. They appreciate their involvement and hope they will understand the rationale behind the decision.
