On Saturday April 27, the Tehachapi Police Department participated in the national Prescription Drug Take Back Day in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (D.E.A.). Tehachapi residents were encouraged to bring in their unwanted, unused and expired medications for disposal.

The Tehachapi Police Department received a total of 125.2 pounds of unwanted medications from the community. Those medications were sealed and turned over to the D.E.A. for disposal.

“Allowing our community to turn in these unneeded medications helps keep them from being stolen and misused. It also prevents them from being flushed into our sewer system which eventually is reintroduced to our water table,” said Tehachapi Police Chief Kent Kroeger.

The next scheduled Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be in October 2019.
