Tehachapi Valley Wrestling Club had a busy weekend Jan. 12-13. Michael Murillo traveled to Selma on Saturday to compete in the Selma New Year Bash. Michael wrestled in the Middle school Division and lost out to two strong wrestlers from the Fresno area. Nine wrestlers traveled to Laverne on Sunday for the CAGWA 3-G Tournament. Teammates Jairdan Medina and Levi Hart met in the finals of the Schoolboy 97 pound division, with Medina coming away with 1st place honors. Jake Brown, Aaron Severson and Quentin Severson all ended up in the Bantam, 43 pound class. Jake finished in 1st with Aaron 3rd and Quentin receiving 4th. Michael Brown, Kayden Gonzales and Reese Hart all finished 2nd in their age and weight divisions. Ryan Trigo had a tough day of matches and finished with 5th place. Warrior wrestler Elijah Grave has been proving himself as a freshman. He recently placed third in the Kern County Invitational Tournament Jan. 12 at Centennial High School. Former TVWC wrestler Bill Takara, also a freshman, is wrestling for powerhouse Temecula High School. Bill recently won the Riverside County Wrestling Tournament. "It's great to watch kids go through our program and continue their success on the high school level" said Coach Curt Nelson.


On Jan. 20 Tehachapi VALLEY WRESTLING CLUB competed in the CVYWA "Rumble for the Rig" at Bakersfield High School. TVWC had 27 wrestlers hitting the mat from Kindergarten to Middle School. First year wrestler, Jake Brown is proving he is a top K-2 grade wrestler by winning the Rig Trophy for the 40 pound division. Levi Hart earned a 3rd place medal for the MS 95 pound division. Fourth place finishers were Michael Murillio, Anthony Ashby and Ryan Trigo. Gabriel Mesa and Kayden Gonzales were two of the top point earners for the team as TVWC placed 6th in a field of 17 teams. Others competing were K-2 graders, Phillip Coates, Ryker MacLachlan, Marcus Coates, Bentley Folks, Maddox MacLaachlan, Noe Mesa, Ben Reyna, Ramsey Royton, Ethan Gaston, Andre Montalvo, Ryan Royton, Edward Reyna, and Caiden Shelbrock. Third to fifth graders were, Owen Schnieder, Micheal Brown, Cole Chavez, Maddox Chavez, Gannon Renehan-Lee, William Fuller and Ella Schneider.
