The Blue Star Mothers Organization said thank you to all the young volunteers by sending over a selection of new books the children could keep and take home.

A number of currently deployed military personnel will be receiving specially prepared care packages made by members of the Tehachapi Community Congregational Church. It's part of a program that says, "Thank you," to our men and woman actively deployed around the world this veterans day.

Shown are typical contents of the donated items placed in each of the care packages.

Under the direction of organizer and church member Ron Pilling, the congregation members worked from a list of 16 names. Names were selected by various service units and sources around the county. Names were also submitted by the Blue Star Families Organization.

The church hopes to expand this into an annual event and to include other Tehachapi churches, making it a community way to say, "Thank you" to our deployed military personnel.
