Cheers to Charity raises $40,000

Representatives from Tehachapi area non-profits proudly display donations checks totaling $40,000 from the August 11 Cheers to Charity annual fundraising event.

On Wednesday evening, Sept. 19, at the Depot Museum, Cheers to Charity organizer Mary Beth Garrison and her committee handed out checks totaling $40,000 to local nonprofits and the organizations that assisted with the event. With Garrison were Barbie Herziger who organized the desserts, Becca Dillenbeck who scheduled the volunteers, Marcia Thompson who handled the insurance, Lydia Chaney who handled the printing and Curtis Nelson who was in charge of set up and take down. Over 750 people attended this year's event which was held in Airport Park on Aug. 11.

Garrison thanked the Depot for allowing her to use their facilities and gave them a check for $500. The impressive list of remaining recipients for 2018 were: Tehachapi Police Foundation $500, Stallion Springs CERT $2,000, Tehachapi Mountain Search and Rescue $2,000, Greater Tehachapi Economic Development Council $2,000, Tehachapi Wrestling Club $2,500, Tehachapi Rotary Foundation (organizers of the Silent Auction) $4,900, Tehachapi CANCER FOUNDATION $7,000, Tehachapi Salvation Army $4,600, Koinonia Family Services $6,000 and Central California Animal Disaster Team $8,000.
