Chalk on the Walk lines the streets in vibrant colors

The streets of downtown Tehachapi were bright with color after the 2018 Chalk on the Walk on Aug. 11.

Artists of all ages began claiming their 4 by 4-foot section of sidewalk canvas along Tehachapi Boulevard and Green Street at 7:30 a.m. It didn't take long for beautiful art to appear.

While some of the artists were new to Chalk on the Walk, others like Best in Show winner Bridget Lucas have participated for "more years than I can remember."

Lucas graduated from high school this year and is working toward a career in video game cinematics.

"Chalk on the Walk has been great," she said. "I just do this for the fun."

James Ramos II took second place in the adult category for his vibrant and colorful portrait of a flower.

"I like to try all types of art," he said. "This flower is something I painted a while ago and I thought it would be good in chalk because of all the colors."

TVAA says a big thank you to this year's sponsors: California Portland Cement, Bear Force Taekwondo Academy, Klew's Gallery, John the Plumber, Skylark Glider School, Hitching Post Theater, Bank of the Sierra, The Loop Newspaper, Tehachapi Candle Co. and Michelle and Nicole Smirnoff.
