The Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District board of directors has appointed former district employee Christine Sherrill to fill the board seat left vacant by Don Napier. Sherrill took the oath of office at the board's Feb. 20, 2018 meeting at district headquarters, 305 Robinson St.

During 16 years with the district, Sherrill worked as quality and risk manager, health information manager, acting compliance officer and privacy officer. She will fill the seat until the election in November, at which time the seat will be on the ballot.

Hospital Project Manager Stacey Pray of SHP Project Development reported by teleconference that "We have closed all the arreements we are managing."

The healthcare district built the $100 million hospital and has leased it to Adventist Health for 30 years. Construction began in February of 2013 and is complete but for various changes triggered by California hospital building codes that were upgraded since the approval of the original design. Changes include the strengthening of requirements for the inside of the pharmacy to meet new safety measures for the mixing of compounds.

The city of Tehachapi approved occupancy for the non-OSHPD (Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development) administration building in August of 2017, and those non-patient offices are occupied by Adventist Health and contractors.

The opening date for the hospital depends on the state of California's complex licensing process. "The target day for opening is midyear – July first, but it's a fluid date," Jeffrey Lingerfelt, president of Adventist Health Tehachapi Valley, told Forde Files. "It depends on state licensure."
