Audubon's 118th Christmas Bird Count will be conducted this coming season, around the world, with counts held between the dates of Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 through Friday, Jan. 5, 2018. Tehachapi's count is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 18. It will start at 6:30 a.m. with a gathering of all interested participants to Henry's Café, 550 Tucker Road. This is where we'll meet with our compiler Larry Parmeter. He will determine, by the number of attendees, who will bird where. We have a designated fifteen mile diameter circle, where we will count every bird that is seen or heard all day. It's not just a species tally- all birds are counted all day, giving an indication of the total number of birds in the circle during that 24 hour period.

If your home is within the boundaries of the Tehachapi CBC circle, then you can stay at home and report the birds that visit your feeder on count day as long as you have made prior arrangement with the count compiler.

After the day of birding we will submit our numbers for Larry to compile for the Tehachapi area.

The Christmas Bird Count is a long standing program of the National Audubon Society, with over 100 years of citizen involvement. Our local birds need you to make them count.

All levels of birders are encouraged to participate. We need identifiers, spotters and counters. If you can only count for a part of the day, that's fine too, you just have to speak with the compiler to know where you should bird, so we don't end up counting the same birds.
