5th Annual Apple Drop, a success

Lions Club of Tehachapi

The Tehachapi Lions Club successfully completed its 5th Annual Apple Drop on Oct. 8 during the Tehachapi Apple Festival. Due to the generosity of others, the Lions will be able to donate funds to Christmas for Seniors of Tehachapi and The Lions Diabetes Foundation.

The Lions would like to thank the community of Tehachapi for its ongoing support as well as Albertson's for allowing them to sell tickets in front of their store. For the past three years, BSE Equipment Rental played an integral part in the success of the Apple Drop by donating the use of their man lift for the event. A huge thank you goes out to Coach Doug DeGeer and the Tehachapi High School football team who helped set up and take down the Apple Drop and to Shaun Murray and B.J. Kingsbury who bravely go up in the man lift each year and dump the bins containing the 1,000 stress ball apples onto the target. We would also like to thank our sponsors: Hebebrand and Moats CPAs, Carlos' Donuts, and Steampunk Café.

This year, Diane from Tehachapi won the grand prize, a $1,000 Walmart gift card. Alan of Tehachapi won the 2nd prize which was a trip to Eagle Mountain Casino valued at $825, and Michelle of Tehachapi won a $500 Target gift card. The Lions would like to thank the following local businesses for their generous donations of gift cards for the event: Village Grille, Steampunk Café, Sail-Thru Car Wash, Carlos' Donuts, Kohnen's Bakery, The Shed and Red House BBQ, Home Depot, P-Dubs and Henry's Café.

The Lions will now be preparing for their Christmas for Seniors of Tehachapi service project. This project serves to brighten the holidays for low-income, isolated and/or homebound seniors in our community who have no family around to share Christmas. You can help the Lions in their efforts by donating needed sundries items for the seniors. You can find a list of needed sundries items on the Lions Facebook page as well as on their website: http://e-clubhouse.org/sites/tehachapi/. Donations can be dropped off at The Loop, 206 S. Green St., or at the Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce, 209 E. Tehachapi Blvd., through Dec. 2. The Lions are also looking for some "elves" to help shop for the seniors wish list items and to help deliver them. Please contact the Lions through their Facebook page if you would like to be a part of this heartwarming and satisfying effort.

If you have the heart for service and are interested in helping our community, the Lions meet the first and third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Tehachapi SENIOR CENTER, 500 E. F Street.
