Zombies at the 2016 Zombie Run are ready to feast.

On Saturday, Oct. 28, zombies will invade Golden Hills during the 4th Annual Zombie Run. Proceeds, from this eerie race, will benefit Gateway Connections, a Tehachapi nonprofit organization providing programs for children and adults with special needs, as well as specialized opportunities (open to everyone) within the performing arts.

The Zombie Run is a part of the day's Zombie Apocalypse Event which includes a Craft Fair and Special Needs Resource Fair, from noon until 6 p.m., in Meadowbrook Park. There will also be food booths and carnival games to round out an afternoon of fun. Everyone is welcome! The Zombie Run includes a shorter track for kids and a longer sprint for runners aged 12 and up. Both races have runners dodging zombies throughout the path. If running isn't your thing, no problem! Walkers are encouraged to join the fun as well. (A team of walkers could easily out maneuver the zombies.)

The Kid's Run starts at 4:30 p.m., with the second race beginning at twilight (5 p.m.). Zombies are sprinkled through the course, just waiting to steal a race flag, but the top runners making it back to the park, with at least one of their flags still intact, will be awarded a ghoulish prize!
